REVIEW: HEMA Eyeshadow Brush & Smudge

Name: Eyeshadow Brush & Smudge 256 by HEMA

Price: £3.50

Quick Review:  Great starter brush on the cheap, if inefficient.

Ingredients List: n/a. Can't find out what the materials are instore OR on the website.

I purchased this as a starter, much like the EcoTools set. The point was to see if the brush shapes would get much use with my style, without much cost. It would’ve been a great find if the brush works excellently, but you get what you pay for.

Brush end
The brush is lightweight, with a white wooden handle and a shiny finish. It’s not particularly sturdy, and as you can see the handle has cracked from a drop. The bristles are two-toned white and black, and it looks quite pleasing. It has survived multiple washes without breaking a sweat, and does not shed (although you can see some bristles are straying). The bristles are quite soft, and the brush heads are tightly packed and well-shaped for my eyelids(which I think is a bit smaller than what common make up brushes are designed for).

Smudge end
While the bristles are soft, I don’t think it particularly deposits or diffuses eyeshadows very well. Applying makeup takes noticeably longer to apply and blend compared to my EcoTools Full Eyeshadow Brush and my Real Techniques purple brushes, so this brush really falls down on that.

Verdict: A great brush for people to try out which figure out what brushes work for them before upgrading, or for beginners/young people who want a brush that works and don’t mind the extra effort needed for application. A good buy for those on a budget.
